Wednesday: Safety and Priority in His Power

DAY 3 • RESTING IN AUTHORITY

Mark 4:38–40 & Matthew 8:26
"But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow... But He said to them, 'Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?' Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm."

While the storm roared and the disciples panicked, where was Jesus? He was fast asleep in the stern on a pillow. Jesus could sleep because He possessed true power—He knew absolute safety in His Father's hands and knew nothing could harm Him unless allowed by His sovereign divine will.

Remarkably, when awoken, Jesus did not immediately quiet the sea. He turned first to His disciples and rebuked them for their fear and lack of faith. Why? Because Jesus operates with divine priorities. He understood that the storm of unbelief raging inside their hearts was far more dangerous than the physical storm raging outside the boat. Jesus has the authority to challenge our motives and priorities, inviting us to anchor our peace in His power rather than our external circumstances.

PRAYER PROMPT

"Lord Jesus, grant me the internal rest that You modeled in the stern of the boat. Forgive me for letting fear rule my heart. Calm the storm of doubt and anxiety within me today before You quiet the circumstances around me. Amen."

ACTION FOR THE DAY

Action Step: Practice 10 minutes of intentional 'restful trust' today. Turn off your phone and sit quietly in God’s presence, bringing to mind His divine authority and releasing every fear without trying to solve it yourself.
