TUESDAY : Pitching a Tent in the Mess
|
John 1:14 (NKJV) |
The word 'dwelt' in the original Greek is a vibrant, military-derived term. It literally means 'to pitch a tent.' It’s a word that evokes campfire smoke, shared meals, and close quarters. When John says that Jesus dwelt among us, he is telling us that God did not build a high-walled palace with restricted security clearances. Instead, He packed His bags, came down to our level, and pitched His tent right next to ours.
Think about the accessibility of a tent. There are no heavy wooden doors, no iron gates, and no guards keeping you out. To speak to someone in a tent, you simply pull back the canvas flap. Jesus chose to experience our ordinary, daily lives. He walked our dusty roads, felt the exhaustion of a long day’s work, and cried at the graveside of His friends. He wanted to be familiar with your reality.
He didn’t come as a distant king demanding you clean up your life before you visit His courts. He pitched His tent in the middle of your everyday mess—your laundry piles, your stressful work commutes, your broken relationships. Because He lives here with us, we have direct, unhindered access to Him. He is ready to talk, listen, and share the journey.
